Seeing rainbows in Washington D.C.!

The MSE team – Project Scientist Alan McConnachie, System Scientist Nicolas Flagey, and CFHT Outreach Manager Mary Beth Laycheck at the CFHT/MSE boot at the recent AAS meeting in Washington D.C.. The rainbows are from the custom MSE-diffraction gratings that the team was giving away.

January has been a busy month for the MSE team! We had our much-anticipated System-level conceptual design phase (more on that soon!) and made our debut to the American astronomy community at the AAS meeting in Washington DC.

With the transition into the preliminary design phase signalled by the System-Level review, now is an ideal time to look to expand the MSE partnership, already consisting of Australia, Canada, China, France, Hawaii and India. The AAS meeting marked the start of a larger effort to inform and engage the American community about MSE opportunities. The MSE team staffed a booth and explained the project to interested astronomers, as well as talking about MSE in one of the Instrumentation talk sessions. The reception was fantastic and the team looks forward to continuing to engage the US over the coming months.

Stay tuned throughout 2018 for updates on MSE’s progress.
