The First Annual meeting of the science team for the Maunakea Spectroscopic Explorer will take place on the Big Island of Hawai'i, 29 July - 31 July 2015. This three day meeting will be the first face-to-face meeting of the MSE science team at a defining stage in the project. We intend for subsequent meetings to rotate around the partnership, but this first meeting will take place, appropriately, on the Island that will ultimately play host to this revolutionary facility.
The meeting is timed to (i) be away from the regular University teaching timetables (ii) provide a useful forum for a discussion of the detailed work the science team is undertaking in the first part of 2015, and to plan for activities in the latter half of 2015 and 2016 (recall that by this stage we will have first drafts of science requirements, including the development of key science reference programs, and the first draft of the detailed science case will be in development). Given the demands on people's schedules, we wanted to send this early announcement to ensure maximum attendance at what will be an important meeting. All members of the MSE Science Team are strongly encouraged to attend, and some limited travel support will be available.
Attendance will be limited to members of the MSE collaboration, and invited guests. Presentation, break-out, and discussion sessions are planned, although the detailed schedule is still in development. Topics to be covered will include:
